How to Convert Sky Miles to Hotel Stays
SkyMiles, the frequent flyer award program for Delta Air Lines, allows you to redeem miles for stays at designated hotel partners. You can use miles to reserve hotels for yourself or others. For example, you can use SkyMiles to book hotel rooms for yourself or for your relatives on a family vacation. Book well in advance on popular travel dates as the stock of eligible rooms may be limited.
SkyMiles Marketplace
Use SkyMiles Marketplace to book hotels if you have Silver, Gold, Platinum or Diamond Medallion member status or a Delta SkyMiles American Express card. After logging in to the SkyMiles Marketplace, select the hotel option from the menu in the center of your screen. Enter your desired location, party size and travel dates. The site will then give you the option to select from available hotels and pay for the hotel stay by redeeming SkyMiles.
Vacation Packages
All SkyMiles members can redeem miles for Delta Vacations -- which are comprehensive packages that include both flights and hotels -- via the Delta website. Travel rewards can be obtained using qualifying increments of bonus miles and put towards gift cards, upgrades, car rentals, and even cruises. As of publication, these loyalty program packages start at a cost of 25,000 miles. Keep in mind that earning perks such as free nights at hotels or free flights comes much quicker to those who pay an annual fee while using one of the airline partner credit cards like the Skymiles Amex.
SkyMiles or Delta miles can also be transferred to Marriott hotels and other common groups including the Hyatt or IHG. Airline miles can also be used as Hilton Honor or Marriott Bonvoy hotel points in order to earn promotions through the rewards programs. Marriott Bonvoy points can be used for a plethora of locations including the Ritz-Carlton.
Aside from just hotel stays, a number of miles earned through the SkyMiles program can be used with airlines including KLM or Air France. When booking with air miles be sure to check the exhausted list of partner airline frequent flyer programs and have your SkyMiles account information, especially your SkyMiles number, available.
