The Delta SkyMiles program is a frequent flier program that allows Delta customers to accumulate miles to be used towards various rewards. SkyMiles can be used to book flights to U.S. and international destinations, but they can also be redeemed on the program's website for rewards other than flights.

How To Redeem Delta SkyMiles

Visit the official Delta Airlines website: delta.com. Log into your SkyMiles account by entering your SkyMiles number and password in the proper fields in the upper left-hand corner of the screen. Here you can check your number of miles, MQD and medallion status, and see how to use Delta Skymiles and earn Medallion Qualification Miles (MQMs).

Tip

If you don’t have a SkyMiles membership, Delta usually makes a good welcome bonus or welcome offer for new members, especially if you choose to purchase one of their Delta credit cards or travel credit cards or want a more elite status in their frequent flyer program. You’ll likely get complimentary upgrades and great card offers and membership rewards when you first make your account.

Scroll over to the “SkyMiles” tab, located at the top of the screen, so that a drop-down menu appears. Select the “Use Miles” option.

You can use your Delta miles on round-trip flights and upgrades from basic economy on these Delta flights. Frequent flyers may get bonus miles and award flights when they fly Delta, or even get cheaper tickets for business class or first class.

Click on “SkyMiles Online Auction” to use accumulated miles to bid on items and experiences in an online auction. Delta partners with different programs and companies, but items up for auction usually include tickets to sporting events, electronics, vacation packages, gift certificates, tickets to shows and concerts and celebrity and athlete meet and greets.

Click on “Medallion Marketplace” to use SkyMiles to purchase perks other than flights. Program members can purchase items like electronics, home goods, luggage and gift cards through a variety of chain stores. Members who do not have enough miles to purchase their items of choice can combine miles with cash to make up the difference when redeeming.

Click on "Magazines for Miles" to trade SkyMiles for subscriptions to popular magazines. Magazines from the list include titles like "Time," "Glamour," "Money" and many more. The "cost" of a magazine subscription ranges from 400 to 5,500 miles.

Click on "Delta SkyClub Membership" to use miles to pay for a membership to the Delta SkyClub. One-year and three-year memberships are available for an annual fee. For additional miles, SkyMiles program members can also purchase a membership for a spouse or partner. These memberships are only for SkyMiles members and offer many rewards. There’s an award chart on their website that details specifics of the award increments; having a diamond card, gold card, or Delta SkyMiles platinum card will offer different perks. Rewards include award travel, main cabin upgrades, free Delta purchases and Delta vacations, and priority boarding

Tip

Delta has different airline partners that will sometimes offer rewards as well, so if you fly with one of their partners, you can often redeem your points through either them or Delta. Delta is part of the SkyTeam Alliance, and some of Delta’s partner airlines include:

  • Virgin Atlantic
  • Air France
  • Aeromexico
  • China Eastern
  • KLM
  • Korean Air
  • Air Tahiti

A SkyMiles membership is required to redeem any rewards from Delta. The reward program is subject to additional rules and regulations published and made available by Delta Airlines. Any terms apply that Delta decides to publish for the cardholders and cash prices and award prices are subject to change. Delta’s website details the information of all redemption options, award tickets, partnerships, card issuer rules, how to pay with miles, and information about the Delta Skymiles credit card.
