Booking airline reservations over the Internet allows you to see all available flights to and from your destination, then book the flight without ever contacting a travel agent. When purchasing the reservations for air travel, you need to have some sort of debit card or credit card to complete your payment. Because a gift card is used just like a credit card, it is possible to use the card to book your online reservation, as long as the card has enough money to cover the entire cost of the purchase. First, navigate to the website of your preferred airline, such as American Airlines, Southwest, Delta, Spirit or any other preferred airline. If you wish to use an external service like Travelocity or Expedia, you may do that as well to book flights.

Select your departure city and the destination city, plus the date you want to fly on and how many passengers will be traveling. Be sure to consider what the full cost will be when looking at the combination of destination and the days you are travelling, as some days and times when combined with destinations can affect price.

Choose the best flight that fits your needs. There are often many different flights, ranging in price, required stops and total flight time. Flights with longer flight times and more stops can sometimes be the cheapest option, although this is not always the case.

Fill in your booking information, such as your name, email, mailing address and any other requested information. If you are planning to check a bag, check if there are baggage fees associated with the purchase of a ticket up front or if you must pay them in person.

Then, type in the billing information for the gift card. If there is a “Gift Card” specific button listed in the payment options, select that. If not, type in the information in the normal credit card space. In the space provided, write down the 16 digit number on the front of the card and the expiration date. For a billing address, write in the address the gift card was mailed to. Select “submit” and the airline tickets should be successfully purchased with your gift card.

After you confirm your purchase, check the receipt sent to your email or within the itemized list of purchases on your visa gift card to ensure the purchase went through. Prepaid cards should provide you with a website where you can enter the information on the back of the card and be able to track the purchases made on it, along with the remaining balance. Doing this extra step will help you avoid any issues with your flight purchases and assure you your flight tickets are valid.
