How to Travel Between Cabo & Puerta Vallarta
Cabo San Lucas is located on the Sea of Cortez at the tip of the Baja Peninsula. Puerto Vallarta rests on Banderas Bay along the Mexican Riviera on mainland Mexico’s west coast. Both locales are renowned tourist destinations, offering a number of beach resorts, dining and nightlife options and activities, such as golfing, swimming and sport fishing. The distance between Cabo and Puerto Vallarta is about 300 miles; however, travel time can take upwards of 18 hours, depending on the mode of transportation. Travel between Cabo and Puerto Vallarta consists of airline and ferry options and itineraries that might include non-direct travel between both destinations, requiring ground transportation by bus.
Search the official sites of the Interjet, Aeromexico and Vivaaerobus airlines to find the rates and times of inter-Mexico flights that travel between the Baja Peninsula cities of Cabo or La Paz -- located about 75 miles north of Cabo -- and the west coast of Mexico. Interjet offers flights from Cabo to Culiacun or Puerto Vallarta. Aeromexico flies between La Paz and Puerto Vallarta for approximately $200 each way, as of 2011. Vivaerobus provides flights from La Paz to Mazatlan for $55 each way or between Cabo and Culiacan for about $82 each way, as of 2011.
Choose the departure date and time from the San Jose del Cabo (SJD) or La Paz (LAP) airports. Pick Puerto Vallarta (PVR), Culiacun (CUL) or Mazatlan (MZT) as the arrival airport, depending on your airline choice. Book a one-way or round-trip flight. Another option is to reserve and take a ferry out of the Pichilingue Port in La Paz to the Mazatlan Port on Baja Ferries.
