Boston is not only the capital of Massachusetts but the site of the country's first subway. The Tremont Street tunnel was created in 1897, allowing streetcars to travel underground rather than continuing to clog the busy thoroughfare of downtown Boston. Today, five lines of subway service connect residents and travelers not only to attractions such as Haymarket Square and the Museum of Fine Arts, but to several hotels conveniently located near the stations. These 5 lines offer 128 stops throughout stations in Braintree, Brookline, Cambridge, Boylston, Longwood, Newbury, and Newton, among many others. The North station and South station are the 2 most populous stations. There are many hotels you can check-in to along the T stations in Boston – it’s super convenient to stay near public transportation and the subway stations , especially if you want to take advantage of the nightlife and other things to do downtown.
